This bowl is a deep navy and natural speckled stoneware. I start the desing by carving the leather hard clay as I choose, cleaning it when dry, and then firing it (as all of my bowls) to a "bisque" stage, which removes impurities in the clay, and brings the piece to a more usable form. The clay is still semi pouris at ths state, and will accept the glaze nicely. I glaze the entire bowl, and on this style, I then wipe away the glaze over the high spots of the design, creating a very interesting pattern.
Volume: about 4 cups
